It’s not working properly for me either. Sometimes it shows the username and sometime the display name. I hope it gets an update.
This plugin and “buddypress like” are two that I would very much like to see updates to.
In my activity stream, I see usernames. In forum posts, I see their display names. It’s rather aggravating not knowing how to fix this myself.

I have just updated to the latest BuddyPress and same here sometimes it shows usernames and sometimes display names – this plugin is one of my favourites and I’ll keep my eyes out for an update.

I’m willing to throw a bit of money behind this fix, but given the “desperate” need of others, it looks like I shouldn’t need to be the only one. Anyone else in?
