Error with BuddyPress 2.0.2 and CommunityJunction 1.0.6

Hello,
I am running WordPress 3.9.2 and the Community Junction theme 1.0.6 As soon as I load BuddyPress, I get the following error on the home page
Fatal error: Call to undefined function messages_get_unread_count() in /home2/calypso/public_html/mingle/wp-content/themes/CommunityJunction/header.php on line 54
I have tried changing my PHP processor from 5.2 to 5.3 and 5.4 but get the same results.
This is a virgin install, so no other plugins.
Any help would be appreciated.
