Mention of the “other g” in your description has be wondering if the now open source code of the etherpad project might be a usable building block towards the con-current editing capability you might be after.
Thought I would mention it just in case you weren’t familiar with the project: http://etherpad.com/ (although I suppose with all things google, one must live under rocks to avoid the knowledge).

Yeah, I know about Etherpad, and I really love it. But the server requirements and installation procedure for Etherpad are way, way too high to be part of a basic WP plugin. I would love to build a BP wrapper for Etherpad (maybe so that you can use it instead of the default Docs editor) but it’ll be a while before I muster the wherewithal to do it
