Expected 0.1.9 Release Date

    Hi,

When is version 0.1.9 expected to be released? I see the tracker http://bit.ly/f5zPJ9 has a June 3, 2011 deadline for BP Media 0.1.9 listed. Will this deadline be met? If not, by what date is the plugin realistically likely to be released?

I understand and appreciate the work of the programmers and this information will help me decide what to do with my sites. Thanks!

The deadline is the 2nd, but the backlog shows it’s expected to be July 25th.

The original deadline was December 2010 when I first started watching this plugin… so, don’t make plans.

ya expect like a release in the next century, like year 3010 or something

Perhaps a more a positive view of the situation would be the huge amount of code we’ve written during the past few months or the hundreds of hours of time we’ve put into the project this month.

    Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies. I am sure that the updated plugin will be as awesome, if not moreso, than the already released BP Album plugin. I can only thank every one of the programmers involved, as it has no doubt been a lot of work for them and I imagine they are more disappointed by the missed deadlines than we are. And I am increasingly concerned that the plugin will not be released soon enough to be very useful. I see now that the project tracker timeframe has been extended and that it’s not expected until, at the earliest, sometime during the week beginning September 12, 2011. I remain optimistic that this will indeed be the case. I will also remain realistic, given the feedback and previous deadlines, that the plugin will be released sometime by the end of 2012.

@karlschweigert Thankyou for appreciating all of the work that we are doing :) I can asure you that 1.9 will be released before the end of 2012. The Alpha version of 1.9 will be out quite soon :)

    WOW, I can’t believe they put out a 1.8.10

    What’s next? 1.8.10, 1.8.11, 1.8.12, 1.8.13, 1.8.14, 1.8.15?

In 2040 when 1.8.26099 comes out, I can’t wait for that extra line of code.

    `WOW, I can’t believe they put out a 1.8.10`

Release names do not follow a decimal naming convention. If we were unlucky to discover 27 new defects between now and release 0.1.9, we’d put out a 0.1.8.37

The “extra line of code” we added last night *prevents your site from getting hacked* if you mis-configure your server to allow files in the WordPress uploads directory to be executed. Are *your* security permissions correctly set?

No amount of hating on our dev team is going to get 0.1.9 released any faster. If BP-Media is important to a website you’re building, sign up on our Project Tracker http://bit.ly/f5zPJ9 , fire me an e-mail, and help us get the 0.1.9 released earlier.

    Thanks!

I wouldn’t be concerned about the project tracker “extending the release date to September” and so forth. Once I mark the Album Modules class tree as finished in the tracker, the calculated release date is going to jump forwards at least a month, possibly two months.

The bottom line is, we’re working on this plugin all day every day and will get it released as soon as possible.

@foxly Keep up the hard work dude. seems you guys get a lot of stick for creating what is going to be the best plugin for media there is. It’ll be here when it’s here and will be well worth the wait!

It’s not hating, it’s just being realistic. Everyone needs to just forget about this plugin and if it comes out some day, awesome, if it never comes out, whatever.

I second that. It’s always worth bearing in mind that for each negative comment there are probably 100 people who are quite happy and feel no need to speak up.

I’m sure @foxly and team will get there in due time, my only concern is what would appear to be a sizeable tranche of code landing in a single release. I’d be happier seeing functionality being released in agile ‘sprints’, with version iterations to accommodate feedback and bug fixes. I’m sure the team already have this in mind, but I fear they could become swamped by the sheer volume of bugs and requests at launch and then struggle to maintain a stable release cycle thereafter.

As I’m sure everyone already knows – release early, don’t try and ‘boil the ocean’ and bring the user-base along with you. I look forward to trying it out when its ready.
