Fake IDs?

    I saw a note on fake identities being created on similar sites..I have the same problem. I am just playing with a concept and began to deploy buddypress, and now “members” are showing up totally fake. Interesting thing, they have one thing in common. Names are always FirstnameLastnameYear. Check it out at http://www.tatazara.com Any idea where this is coming from? Is this something widespread?

    a quick update: these fake IDs come from the same hosting service http://www.parallels.com The email addresses used generally end with onlq.com or myspacee.info or host-a-site.info – I suppose finding ways to ban them would solve part of the problem.

    A majority of the registration protection you would want to do currently comes from the WordPress side of it; captchya’s and what-not.

    I’ve seen it happen on a few BP sites I’ve done for clients already. Seems to come with the territory unfortunately.
