Force email notification for messages

How can I force email notifications for new messages and site notifications to be enabled for all users? I don’t want the users to be able to disable this. I’m creating a member site for a organization, and I want to use the message system to communicate with the members.

I don’t mind adding/editing PHP code, but I would prefer to add outside the main plugin, to avoid having to do changes every time I update BuddyPress.

Anyone able to help me?

Are you using http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-email-subscription/ ?

From that plugin’s page: “DEFAULT SUBSCRIPTION STATUS Group admins can choose one of the 5 subscription levels as a default that gets applied when new members join.”

Setting the default notification settings is no problem. I want to force the default settings, so that it’s impossible for the members to change it.
