[Resolved] Forums not working

    Hi,

I have discovered recently that the forums aren’t working on my website. I have group forums installed and if I try to create a forum or a new topic the page loads for a long time and then I get a notice that an error occurred “There was an error when creating that topic”. If I load the forums directory, once again, it takes a long time for the page to load and then it says “Sorry there were no forum topics found.” even though some exist. It seems like there’s an issue with the database (?)

Does anyone know what would cause this or what steps I should take to correct it? Thanks.

    I’m running WordPress 3.5.1 and BuddyPress 1.6.4

Thanks for the reply Mercime. It’s not a new installation. It was working before. However, there are no significant forums existing. If there’s a way to uninstall and then install as a new installation that would work fine. Any suggestions on how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi does anyone know if uninstalling the forums and then reinstalling them would work (or is possible)? I assume that I’d have to fully uninstall them?

Any advice on how to proceed here would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

If you’re only using group forums, there is nothing to uninstall. First you deactivate the forum in the group admin and second, you deactivate the forum component in BP settings. Done !

Your issue could be theme dependend. Have you tested with bp-default ?

Thanks Chouf1. I’ve been overwhelmed with work and only had a chance to do more trouble shooting today. I followed your method for deactivating the forums but when I reactivated them the problem remained. I tried using the Default Buddy Press theme with no improvement. I also have a duplicate of the website running for development purposes that isn’t experiencing the issue. I don’t know too much about this sort of thing but could the database be corrupted? If so is there a safe way to remove the database information for the forums and get BuddyPress to treat it as a fresh installation?

    Thanks for any advice.

I am noticing my private intranet that I am setting up on buddypress is acting similar as of today (possibly yesterday). I initially saw a message saying a group was not set up for forums, but saw that the checkbox was already checked in admin. I then tried to enter a new post. My bb_posts table is still populating with the new posts, but I am getting the same error as listed above in the buddypress default theme and the posts are not populating in any part of my sites forum content.

    Hello,

I have the same problem on my new installation. I used a couple of buddypress themes and i have the same error when i want to create a new topic on my group forum.
Anybody can help us with this issue ?

@singfa setting up a group is a prerequisite to creating a group forum. The group has to exist first before a forum can be created for it.

@singfa sure you are silly 🙂 for not mentioning your setup details lol! It would be helpful to know what you have installed that may be a culprit!

I discovered the problem was caused by a misconfiguration of the bb-config.php file that wasn’t updated when the website was transferred to a new server. Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the issue.
