Friends – rename to something else

I want to change the term Friends to something else e.g. associates, etc. It must be consistent right across the site.
How can I do this?

Also where can I find a description of the Friends functionality?
Just becoming friends doesn’t seem to achieve very much, or am I missing something?

If the text is translatable in wordpress/buddypress you should be able to use the technique mentioned here

Thanks – this helped – and I posted my feedback on the thread you mentioned above, aces.
But it’s still not perfect, as I still have’ Friends’ showing here and there which is probably worse than leaving it as it was.

Much happier now having created a translation file. Wish I’d known before that is the best way to go about it.
