Function to return current group slug (even if in group sub levels)

As per the discussion at:

http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-get-the-current-group-slug/

The existing buddypress functions for returning the current group slug, do not work properly when the group is now a sub group due to BP Group Hierarchy.

They return the full hierarchal permalink all after the main domain.

Is there a way to return the current group slug that is compatible with BP Group Hierarchy?

You can use `$group->true_slug` to skip the path info and just get the group slug for a subgroup

You could also use `basename({whatever you are using to get the slug})`

How do I put the slug value in $var123

From within the groups single.php
