Is there a way to get the forum slug from the forum ID?

What I am doing is grabbing forum content and using it in several locations throughout a site using…

if ( bp_has_forum_topics( ‘page=false&type=newest&forum_id=3&max=3’ ) ) :

…everything is working great but it would be a lot easier if I could use forum slugs instead of trying to figure out which ID goes with what forum. This would also allow me to use some nifty back end options to set which forum is used instead of having to mess with code for ever instance.

I’m using the buddypress install of bbpress.
