Group Blog for BP1.2 is now available

    @mariusooms

    We just released version 1.4 of the BuddyPress Group Blog plugin. Lots changed in BuddyPress going from 1.1.3 to 1.2. Apart from code, the way it communicates and looks at the frontend has changed drastically.

    We are releasing this new version as a starting point. As we hear how you use the new theme and what the needs are we will adjust it’s theme functionality. You can always re-theme the templates yourself.

    We added some extra stuff as well. The most obvious is that we allow validation settings to be overridden. Dashes can now be allowed so that your blog url matches the group url closer. We also modified when in the group creation step the blog gets created. This should help in weird behavior and blogs being created by accident.

    Looking forward we are looking to build a P2 child theme that matches the BuddyPress Default theme, but with Group elements.

    We already included a Group based child theme for the bp-default theme. However we have not done extensive testing.

    Feel free to test the plugin here: http://sandbox.ywamcloud.com

    THIS VERSION IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF BUDDYPRESS

    Alright, just wanted to make sure it was said!

    Greetz,

    Marius Ooms

    @r-a-y

    I’ve been setting up groups on my new BP site, and things were fine with the first two when it came to setting up the group blogs using the latest version of the plugin.

    However, I’ve just set up a third, and when I try to access the blog I via the tab inside the group I get the following error message:-

    Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home/biguyz/public_html/wp-includes/wpmu-functions.php on line 107

    This is with the Blog Redirect enabled.

    What should I do to fix this?

    I deleted all group blogs manually, removed the plugin completely, checked the database is ok and then installed it again. I still get the error message above for groups which originally had them.

    If I remove the Blog Redirect setting, the error is this Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home/biguyz/public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 488

    I managed to create one new group blog successfully, but the second one just resolves to a blank screen.

    I’m uninstalling this again, but really, really hope this can be fixed!

    Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

    Hi,

    I installed Groupblog on WordPress 3.2.1 & BuddyPress 1.5 using the BuddyPress default theme. It seems to be working except that I don’t see an easy way to post to it. I activated it network-wide then enabled the blog through the group admin. It created a Blog tab in the group page which displays posts. If I use the Dashboard -> New Post link in the BuddyPress admin bar, it takes me to the site blog rather than the group blog. There are two links on the Groupblog page; one is to the Sample page that WordPress comes with and the other to Events which is a page for the EventsManager plugin.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks

    O.K. I found the readme file, I’m embarrassed, and noticed you can theme and redirect. I’m not sure I want to redirect though because it defeats the BuddyPress feel. PostHaste seems to work with it if you don’t want to use the P2 theme. I guess I have to find a way to remove the two links that are showing up and include another link somewhere to the Blog Homepage for adding posts.

    Thanks for your plugin
