The Activity stream would work if it only put the item in the activity of those who have the role in that group to see it, but it seems to me that it is putting the activity stream news item in the main activity and personal activity for all to see rather than just those who are in the group and have permissions to see that project and or task.
Is that the case? If so, the option to have it only give activity stream news to those who have permissions on that task or activity would be something that would be useful, otherwise, I have to disable the GTM activity site wide.

Ah, so that was my problem. This plugin definitely needs to work without activity stream enabled.
