How can I make a custom activity loop into a plugin that will replace the default one?

I already have the custom activity loop code. Now I just need a function that will replace the entire activity-loop.php template with the one I wrote the code for. Reason I am doing this is so it wont effect updates and if it is in plugin form it could be deactivated and revert back to the original activity-loop.php. I am just not sure how buddypress handles it. Thank ya very much!

I need that same thing exacly, to learn how to programatiaclly replace a template file or at least a piece of it, and not the content that it will digest vía filters. Would be amazing if someone give us a tip for pointing us in the right direction.
