How do I favorite a forum post?

Especially if I am on the topic page?

    Is there a Buddypress-wide standard? (I haven’t used groups / favorites / a lot of BP functionality so far — I’m trying them out now ;) )

  • That bbPress functionality is not carried over into the group forums

Yea, that seems to sort of suck… :/

I mean if a forum post was made weeks ago + I would like to follow it via favorites, is that *impossible*? (or would I have to swim through all of the sitewide — ahem: Network-wide — activity first? O_O )

right now it would need to be on the activity stream (in order to save the reference to a forum topic)

but the underlying bbPress Favorites functionality is still there – just someone need to wrap it and bring it into the BuddyPress fold (which i suspect i’ll try this myself in the coming weeks) – probably won’t work with the BP favorites though (as that is only tied to activity records)

Well, I just tried out the buddypress-like plugin … I’m assuming the same applies?

It would be simple enough if there were simply a permalink to the original buddypress status update in the activity stream, no?

oh, hmmm — I guess activity stream updates don’t really *have* permalinks?

another tack: is there some reason why the activity listed under profiles is limited to 1 page (or however it seems to be limited)? Couldn’t that have pages back to previous activity?

(*thinks he sounds like a novice ;) *)

I too have been wanting this desparately. Even here on Buddypress.org, since the wonderful make-over I can no longer follow forum topics. Which means I post and then have no way to follow up!

I don’t know the future vision of forums, but this might be one more reason to switch to a more integrated forum solution. I bet the buddypress dev team could knock out an awesome BP forum in a matter of weeks. but obviously there are bigger priorities out there.

does the dev team know if there will be any progress on this, or should we write a plugin?

BP integrating with Simple Press, which already works with BP just doesn’t who up in the Activity stream is kind of a no brainer if you ask me.

Hopefully we’ll be able to “follow” forum discussions…

good to know, but i’m hoping for something more ‘official’ and therefore future proof.

We used to be able to Favorite forum threads here. It was one of many important pieces of functionality we’ve lost. Your favorites from the old site still exist, though, at https://buddypress.org/forums/profile/%5Byourusername%5D/favorites . I haven’t a shred of a clue why @apeatling decided to omit that functionality in the new design.

I’ve ported BP-Like to work with forum posts (don’t know if it coexists happily with the original BP-Like, though, but it should), and have it working fine on my testbed install. I’ve tried to contact Hempsworth, the original BP-Like author, with no response. He’s disappeared from the BP world at least temporarily, it would seem. I’m hesitant to release it to the wild because I am a completely crap coder, and it’s a hacky cut and paste job, but like I said, it works almost perfectly for my limited purposes, and if someone with better PHP/BP skills would like to take it over and release it as a plugin, please PM me and we can talk.

Useability on buddypress.org and in BP in general, particularly in forums, continues to be a major, major concern.

thanks for you update. I have to manually go through my activity stream, to find old posts i’ve commented on to see if there are any responses. when we had favorites, I simpled favorited an item, and then subscribed via RSS to my favorites stream – wonderful.

I’d really like to hear what the powers that be ( @apeatling) see as the right way to go forward on this before I start coding something else. For me a big part of it is staying connected on this website and only they can change that.

BTW, many thanks to the powers that be for all their hard work and all this free software!
