How do you plan on using the main blog?

Hi everyone, wanted to see what people’s thoughts/opinions are on how they plan on using the main blog that comes in the default BuddyPress install, mysite.com/blog. Do you use it/plan on using it to update the community on your site’s goings on (new features, etc.) or do you view it as a real blog in its own right.

I ask because I plan on blogging a lot through my own site/community, mostly covering news items. But I’m wondering if I should blog through a separate blog, citizenjake.mysite.com say, or through the main blog. I guess my thinking is that if I use the main blog as my main personal blog that might hinder the overall community. Thoughts?

I typically use it as a blog for the purpose of the website itself. A place to talk about the whole community. Then I make my own blog that I use to blog about myself inside the website, sort of as a guide for other users to follow.

I also tend to create a different custom theme for the main blog that other users cannot use. It helps to visually separate itself as something maybe a bit more important and website specific than the others.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I think it also makes sense to use the main blog to promote posts from the whole community.
