How to alter the placement of buttons in Activity

    @valuser

    WP 3.8, bp 1.9.1

    Would like to be able to control where the “activity-meta” buttons are placed underneath the activity update.

    At the moment on a local install have

    Comment Favorite Like Flag Share buttons as per http://i.imgur.com/Bbcls4h.png

    However once “Like” is clicked a line break is created to add the text “JoeBlogs liked this” as per http://i.imgur.com/Es9g5B3.png.

    This pushes the buttons to the right of “Like” down which is unnecessary.

    To avoid this would like to be able to put the “Like” button on the far right ?

    Any ideas how to do this really would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi @valuser, are you using a plugin to output the Like button? And do you have a link to your site?

    Update: sorry I should have seen you posted in the plugin’s forum :)

    Tried with css – to shift the “Like” button to the right

    ‘.button.like, .button.unlike {
    float: right !important;
    }’

    It shifts the button to the right but it is NOT a solution.

    CSS just changes the location of the button. it does not change the order in which the button is loaded, so when the button is clicked the same behaviour happens as reported in the original post.

    The key, i believe, is to be able to control the order in which the various “activity-meta” functions are loaded ???

    Yes, that would be the best solution!

    Do you have a link to the plugin? I’m not familiar with it. I’ll have a look into how you can do it

    Apologies for not replying sooner.

    The current problem with BuddyPress Like can be seen http://i.imgur.com/Es9g5B3.png.

    the plugin currently at the end of the “activity-meta” is

    buddypress-share-it v.1.2.1 by @modemlooper (currently not in the wp repository)

    This plugin (buddypress-share-it) works perfectly WP 3.8.1 BP 1.9.2 and with a lot of other plugins

    I just don’t know if it was moved in would it then have the problem. (of triggering a line break for all subsequent “activity-meta” items.)

    The current developer of Buddypress Like is also working on this see http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-alter-the-placement-of-buttons-in-activity?replies=4

    It’s likely that the JS file is adding a block element to the page. Block elements such as div or p will cause a line break. Using an inline element such as span should solve the issue. Alternatively ( if you don’t want to make changes to the plugin), try styling the block element. For example div { display: inline }

    Many thanks @henrywright

    i used this

    #bp-default .users-who-like {
    display: inline;
    }

    see http://i.imgur.com/8nHP3dw.png

    puts the “like notice” inline.

    But……….

    Somehow one always ends up just asking for more !

    Now whats needed is a counter (already there) and a pop – up with links to the “likers”

    Plugin developer certainly will have a lot on his plate!!

    Looks that way! It’s great to see the BuddyPress Like plugin being worked on again. Notifications next? Although in order to hook into that functionality, it would probably require Like to be made into a BP component.
