How to use Who's Online function on my theme?

I’m creating my own theme but how am I going to use the widget feature which is Who’s Online on my theme, I would like to display user online status on my page.
Currently I don’t have any widget selection on my admin dashboard. And I need the function not the sidebar. How can I do that?
