Hi Aaron. The plugin uses the default WP/WPMU username/password email. Try creating an account manually via Dashboard > Users > Add User (enter an email address you own) and you’ll see the email text.
In the future I will make it possible to customize the email text.
Does this plug in download all of the content as well? Does it associate the user with his posts? The instructions only talk about importing the users, which is great, but the content is the important part that I would be interested in importing.
Unfortunately, the plugin doesn’t import any content. Not because I don’t want to! Ning doesn’t offer an easy export of any content except for user profile data. Hopefully one day soon they will turn such a tool on, but until then user data is the best I can do.
Heads up, Boone: Looks like Ning is going to making an Adobe AIR application available to export data from a Ning Network, not just a member export:

Thanks, @ernieatlyd! I’m on vacation right now but will be able to have a look at this in about a week an a half. In the meantime, if anyone has a fairly active (and non-sensitive) Ning community and is willing to share a complete backup with me so that I can use it to build the importer, please send it along at boonebgorges -at- gmail!
Ning’s content export tool was released about 3 weeks ago. How can we get these JSON files into Buddypress?
