Integrating Buddystream with Profile Fields

Has anyone had any luck integrating profile fields which users set upon registration with Buddystream options? I know Twitter would be more difficult because of oAuth but it seems since Youtube and Flickr just need usernames it wouldn’t be too hard to grab the profile field setting and set that as the username? I’m not much of a coder though and my few attempts have hit a wall. Anyone attempted this and had any success?
