Sounds a bit like an English gentleman’s club, be quite cool then if we could have a blackball facility, a group of committee members that could vote and blackball someone
This is kind of like the adding the groups automatically: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/invite-anyone/forum/topic/automatic-add-to-groups-including-private-ones/
Probably should both be options in the admin. I’d likely turn on the automatic friending too. They’d most likely want to be friends with whoever invited them. Of course, they can always remove them if they didn’t.
Haha… Yes, well I am in the process of trying to build a community where people give engaging comments/posts and I fill like the best way to do that is by having it as invite only and then those in the community have a responsibility to bring in our quality contributors. Then maybe the can get more “points” based on how their invitees do on the site and so forth.
Yup, I will make automatic joining/friending into admin options. (From my point of view, automatic friending makes more sense than automatic group joining, but I can see the value in both and I definitely want them both to be possible.)
@nshamatutu Very interesting idea about displaying who invited whom. It’s easy to do. I’ll build a little bit of code into the next version of the plugin, so that you can drop the function call into your theme files to display that information wherever you’d like.
Thanks! Is there a way to also limit the amount of invites people have? or even give them more invites once they run out?
@nshamatutu No way to do this yet, but it’s a good idea that I’ll look into in the future.
I’ve been looking for a plugin that would support invitation-only registration. The admins could invite unlimited people, but each member, in turn, could only invite a select number of individuals to join the community. Is this something that your plugin could do, or do you know of another plugin that might work for this?
Any update on this? I’ve been dying for a “see who invited whom” function, probably off of others’ Activity streams. Would be grateful for a response. Like @nshamatutu, I’m trying to create an engaged community and stoke a bit of “peer pressure” to invite. Thanks!
