login username and avatar quality

I have run into 2 incredibly annoying little issues that I just cannot seem to figure out:

    1. Buddypress doesn’t allow spaces in usernames, yet, there is no setting that blocks you from using spaces when you create a username. What then happens, is that a hyphen is automatically added to the space to make the username valid. When the user then tries to login to their account, the get an error: incorrect username. But they don’t know that they need to add a hyphen where there was a space.

I want to add a code that prohibits you from adding a space in your username when creating it in the first place.

    2. I’m using the plugin, Loginradius, to support social media login. I’ve created the fb app and its working fine. However, when someone logs in with facebook, the profile picture loses quality and looks terribly low res. This does not happen when I upload the profile picture manually at the exact specifications. But obviously most people won’t bother to size their images just for my site, I really want them to be able to use their social media profile pics as is.

I am not a coding expert, so when you give a suggestion please keep your answers simple.
The site is: http://www.prettyniftylife.com and I’m using a template called Onecommunity.
