Magazine Site to Buddypress: Need Advice

    Hi All!

We currently run a magazine-style web site using Joomla which contains many thousands of unique articles, and we are considering porting the content over to BuddyPress.

I have a question for you BuddyPress Experts!

Question: I understand that BP allows each user to have their own blog, and access social networking features between profiles. However, we want the site to have a custom home page with only our own articles, as well as main sub-sections that only show our articles. The social networking features of BP would more be shown in a separate community area of the larger site as a whole. Is this easily done? Can we have a premium theme home page (such as from the Revolution themes), where we control what story appears where (and can assign a thumbnail to each). I just wouldn’t want to use BP if it is difficult for us to keep our own original content front and center.

If you have any suggestions on how to run a magazine-style web site with BP, please speak up! Example URLs of existing sites would be great too.

    Thank you!

    Jake,

I think you can definately achieve what you need using Buddypress. The home page does not have to be community focused at all and can be as flexible as any WordPress run website (you will have to install some way for members to access the community tho). You just have to customize and install the theme you need as the home theme.
