Manual Upgrade

    Hi,

Due to some tight security on our server I need to upgrade WP and its plugins manually. Is there anything special that needs to be done in order to manually upgrade BP, other than copy the files over?

  • Probably the better way to proceed anyway, I always upload manually , having first disabled all BP dependent plugins then deactivate BP itself, then remove or rename the folder and upload the new one then reverse the process for deactivation of plugins reactivating new BP, checking that’s ok then enabling the other bp plugins one by one.

    1. Test the upgrade on a backup server so you can test plugin compatibility first
    2. Make Good Backups before the upgrade

Otherwise, manually should actually be less risky of an upgrade than the auto upgrade.

Definitely do what @hnla suggested and deactivate all of your BuddyPress related plugins 1st before upgrading.

Hi thanks for your suggestions everyone, and sorry for the delay… I didn’t receive any email notification of these replies – is that normal? I’m still very new to BP…

yep, you’ll get notifications on updates or @mentions, someone following etc but not forum posts
