Members can’t create groups

(Oops – posted this in the wrong place earlier).

Hi all. I have what’s probably a simple problem, but can’t find an answer no matter where I search. I’m perhaps looking in the wrong places…

I’ve set up a social network site in WordPress with BuddyPress Single, not WPMU. (I have no use for blogs or forums, and don’t want the overhead). The problem is that I can’t see how to allow new members to create a Group. I’ve got the ’BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation’ plugin, but don’t see a Mod role to do anything with.

Does the Mod role only appear if you’ve installed BBPress forums? It looks like setting up a Mod role probably won’t give the required permissions, from what I can see via the ’Capability Manager’ plugin.

What I’d like to do is allow new members to create a group, then be ’demoted’ back to a normal member. I don’t mind modifying my theme php files if required,as I’ve already modified the standard BuddyPress theme.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Well, I found a better way of doing this, without BuddyPress. After a week of fighting with it for 12 hours a day, I looked for other solutions and found Pligg (http://www.pligg.com). This does *everything* I want, and some more. A couple of hours to modify the base theme into what I want, and all’s well. Thanks to those who offer their help and time.
