Membership Levels?

I would like to have different levels of Memberships on my site.
Basic User:
Allowed to post comments and various other tasks – DOES NOT HAVE PROFILE
Advanced User:
Has their own profile and the ability to do basically everything.
Is this possible? If so, could you please point me in the right direction?
