Moved to a new host and new account activation key not working

My BuddyPress setup was all fine until I move it to a new hosting company. Running on WordPress 3.0.1 and BuddyPress 1.2.6
When the new user get the activation key URL and click on it he’s getting a 500 server error, if you refresh the page then you have the option to enter manually the activation key. Unfortunately even trying manually he doesn’t active the account. Anyone seen the same issue? Could it be a file permission issue or something not set properly on the server?
