I am using a very cool AIT theme that offers features no similar theme offers. Unfortunately the theme devs use a proprietary framework (AIT framework). When i install buddypress, nothing at all shows up on the site. I can in fact access all the buddypress settings in admin, but no matter what i do it will not work with the theme. This actually is not an old theme at all, the developers have simply stated they did not and do not plan to support social networking within the theme. I know absolutely NO code at all and i have a feeling that this needs some integration into the theme template files and more. The website is a geolocation based business directory. To make my directory SHINE i really need to allow users (not businesses) to use buddypress. The theme allows users to log in to comment on and rate a business but the comment system is theme dependant so as far as i can tell it would not allow buddypress users on the site to comment without creating a “directory account” as well. I would like it if the account types created when a business registers a listing were able to interact with the buddypress accounts, but to not allow buddypress users to list a business without upgrading accounts. I could ramble on forever about how it really needs to work, but that can be taken care of later if you decide you CAN help me. I am absolutely willing to pay for this help, and if you really know your stuff i could use a partner. If you can help me i will need to have you e-sign a non-disclosure agreement prior to beginning, as this will be proprietary development.

Thanks a ton for your time and consideration, Phil May

Java! why Java that’s another programming language, how are you using Java on a WP site?

If you check through the codex docs or those theme authors do you’ll find guides on creating custom page templates to get around themes that don’t follow the WP template hierarchy and template construction with properly constructed page.php files.

On a sidenote asking people to sign NDA’s has probably lost you a fair few developers, I would re-consider asking that people sign those.

Thanks for your reply Hugo. I think i saw somewhere that the theme i am using uses java somewhere for rendering maps through googles api. I may be wrong, i know nada about code. As far as following those guides nothing was definitive about if buddypress would work with the custom user types of the theme, and it is honestly beyond the scope of my personal capabilities. I want to seamlessly integrate all features of BP directly into the theme, so it looks and behaves as if it was built directly into it. I do not have a choice about the NDA, i am incorporated. part of my agreement with my investors is that any employee or outside contractor hired to perform work can not disclose details about this product. I understand that the majority of wordpress is based on an open source effort, however i am bound by law of written contract not only to my investors, but also to any customer who requests that I nor anyone i hire to work on their project disclose details about the project. Neither my investors nor this client have the right to stop or even request that myself or anyone else keep in secret the methods to implement this into the theme, but any site/product/project proprietary information must not be disclosed. i suppose i can always just hire someone to integrate BP into the theme itself and i can just rebuild the site based on this modified theme. either way works for me.
