    http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/bp-album/branches/foxly/0.1.9.1/bp-album-alpha-2010-06-01.zip

    Here’s the latest version of BP Album+ for you guys to download and test. It’s a massive upgrade from the previous versions we’ve posted, and includes things like adaptive image caching and activity post item grouping.

    We want you to download this version and tell us what you think, and if it causes problems on your server, please give us a detailed bug report.

    This version should NOT be installed on a production server. It has hundreds of minor bugs. Don’t post reports like “when I click on X option, nothing happens” … we know… :)

    What we’re trying to achieve with this post is feedback on the UI, and file system debugging.

    Thanks!

    Tested it a few days ago and wondering if it might be good to breakout into individual plugins within BpAlbum for each media type…similar to the Forums Extras plugin set of plugins. This way we can pick/choose what media we want to make available. After seeing what was in there…it is quite amazing and alot of options but I have other ways to support different media for members and really would only like to keep the photo albums of bp-album+. And only want to have an Album/Photos tab not so much a “Media” tab, kinda got lost on that part, maybe good to also break out into a main tab for each media type. good job though.

    @foxly Well, this version of BP is certainly beyond what I was expecting. Excellent work. I managed to upload 65MB of images which were roughly 2-3mb each without running into a problem. Uploading was a breeze.

    * Images appear in groups of 5 in the activity stream.
    * With comments enabled, users cannot comment on images with comments enabled. The following appears just below the image comment section: array(3) { [0]=> string(1) “2″ [1]=> string(4) “item” [2]=> string(2) “22″ } array(1) { [0]=> string(2) “22″ }
    * User tagging doesn’t seem to work.

    Either than that I’m sure you guys are aware of the majority of existing bugs. This is really quite a piece of machinery that you’re adding to buddypress. Wow.

    I can wait for the official release so no worries. My only question is, would it be safe for me to use the current template files (from this version) to build the interface I had previously designed or should I wait?

    I just installed it and it crashed the entire site (I deleted the plugin folder and everything went back to normal).

    It was a blank white screen that said “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in ……..wp-content/plugins/bpalbum/includes/bp-album-core.php on line 686″

    I looked up that line and it is…..

    $term_name = ucwords(get_term_by(‘slug’,$bp->action_variables[0],$bp->bpa->taxonomy->taxonomies[$bp->current_action])->name);

    1) You cannot rename the BP Album plugin directory. It has to be “bp-album” you changed it to bpalbum.

    2) The error you have reported is usually caused by your FTP program corrupting files during upload.

    3) The code you quoted in the PHP error is not present on the line you specified. Please cut and paste ALL of the errors you get directly into your forum message.

    1. That is strange, I don’t recall renaming the folder or any reason why I would, but I un-zipped it again and you are right.

    2. I’ve never heard of that, is there any away to avoid that? You have to upload files one way or another (I’m using Filezilla)

    3. I doubled checked and that is the correct line (according to Dreamweaver CS4).

    4. I tried correctly renaming the file (no luck) deleted and re-uploaded (no luck). It is giving the same line 686 error.

    5. I’m working with my garbage work computer right now (a PC running Vista) and I am trying to run it locally with XAMP and it basically works, I’ve never seen this plugin before so I’m not sure what it is suppose to look like. When I check out the “Debug Tools” tab I get a giant page of code I’m not even trying to copy and paste here, it would probably crash buddypress.org haha.

    6. Looks like this plugin is going to be amazing though when the bugs get worked out.

    1) We’re working on adding code to the plugin to help people debug their web servers, because 95% of the time, problems are being caused by the web server, not the plugin.

    2) As a developer, I stopped using Adobe Dreamweaver last year and never looked back. If you’re working with WordPress templates, you need a *real* dev environment that properly highlights code and can do version control. Our development team uses NetBeans. You can get a copy for free here:

    http://netbeans.org/

    It does everything Dreamweaver does, minus graphical editing …which is impossible to do on dynamically generated pages anyway. Plus, it lets you connect directly to our SVN repository http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/source/checkout and download updated code in real time. And it handles error checking in mixed PHP and HTML syntax in real time, and it has live preview in 3 different web browsers at once, and you can set up the syntax coloring however you want, and it connects directly to the debugger on your web server so you can get useful errors. Seriously, if you’re still using Dreamweaver you’re in the stone age.

    3) You need to drop all your BP Album DB tables and delete all your uploaded items from the cache and content directories every time you upgrade to a new nightly build. That’s one place to start. Check if your server is running at least PHP 5.2, because that’s a requirement.

    As for line numbers, you might have different line numbers because I’m using the code from the SVN and you’re using a zipped nightly build that’s 2 days old. We’ve made approximately 400 changes to the plugin code in this space of time.

    So grab the latest version from the SVN, or post a copy of the entire file that the error is referring to (as a link, use pastebin).

    4) Debug tools is supposed to do that. It’s dumping the entire BP Media global variable for debugging purposes.

    Thanks!

    Thanks man, I’ll have to check out that netbeans program. I actually do most web stuff in Word Pad, I’ve been using a trial version of BBedit, my work bought Dreamweaver for me when I started this past winter. I’m mainly a graphic designer and front end developer.

    I think my problem was testing on a site hosted on godaddy and as far as I know they only go to php5. Locally though, it has been working “with errors” on XAMP and MAMP.

    Oh you poor thing!

    This is what *my* desktop looks like when I’m editing code, using NetBeans, and when I’m editing HTML it’s just as good:

    http://i29.tinypic.com/6sazuu.jpg

    The screen on the right is called a “diff” …NetBeans compares two different versions of a file and shows you all the changes. It’s *brilliant* for finding mistakes in template and CSS files, although the software automatically underlines most errors in red for you automatically. I’m using the “sunburst” color scheme with Bitstream Vera Sans Mono 15pt font.

    As for GoDaddy? Yes, *that’s your problem right there*. GoDaddy is marginal at best for running WordPress, and frequently causes problems because of the load BuddyPress places on the system. If you plan on having more than 25 users on your site, get off GoDaddy *now*. See wordpress.org for a list of hosting providers that have their systems set up properly.

    *Do not use GoDaddy for BuddyPress Websites*

    Now, as for errors running BP Media on your local XAMPP installation… that I am *very* interested in hearing more about. It should *not* be doing that.

    Please paste the entire PHP error message so we can take a closer look at that.

    Thanks!

    Yeah I remember when I first started learning about WordPress you had to comment out like 3 or 4 lines of php for it to work. But then they started running some Linux servers and WordPress at least worked fine.

    As far as errors on XAMP and MAMP. I was getting the left aligned page problem i’ve read a few other people were having. I could upload photos, but it was always display a message saying,

    There were problems updating the media item

    and then at the bottom of the page just above the Buddypress credits

    array(3) { [0]=> string(1) “2″ [1]=> string(4) “item” [2]=> string(1) “3″ } array(1) { [0]=> string(1) “3″ }

    It is also stuck on comments disabled, I go to the edit page and the enabled button is already checked. Also when I click the “Tag Yourself” button it says the page you were looking for is not found.

    The “Embeded Content” tab on the back end is just an empty page.

    The Debug Tools tab says:

    object(stdClass)#206 (9) { ["id"]=> string(5) “album” ["options"]=> array(172) { ["media_imagesEnable"]=> bool(true) ["media_audioEnable"]=> bool(false) ["media_videoEnable"]=> bool(false)     Comments on Media Single page are Not Working

    I am using WP 3.2.1, Buddypress plugin 1.5.1 and BP Album + alpha version 0.1.9 in my website.

    I am facing some issues with BP Album + alpha version:
    1) On media single page, comments feature is not working. It shows the message “Comments are disabled for this picture. Edit picture to enable them.” inspite the comments feature is already enabled for the particular media.

    2) Also, the tags of media displayed does not shows correct results on tag page.

    Please suggest a solution for this.
