new message notifications?

    I just received an email saying that I had a message on this website so I went to my profile to look for it.

    It turns out it was a ‘private message’ yet, there was no notification that I even had a new message waiting other than the email I received.

    I would suggest adding some kind of ‘message waiting’ notification on the profile bar, or somewhere else on the site so that should I receive further messages, I will know to look for them.

    I can see this becoming quite confusing for my members, as people would send pm’s to each other, yet there is no way of knowing you received one, enless you go into the profile ‘messages’ tab.

    You should get a notification in the menu bar when you are logged in. If you clicked and viewed the message it will clear. Seems to be working great for me, anyone else seen this issue?

    Works for me too. My only feedback would be that the logic behind when the notification on the site goes away seems to be one click behind. When I click on the notification from the menu bar, it takes me to my inbox, and not the new message itself.

    If I have many PM’s then the new message might be on page two, but the notification link doesn’t take me there.

    Once I am viewing the new message, the notification is still present. Then when I reply to the new message, because it is an ajax reply, the notification still exists. Once I navigate away from that message, the notification is cleared.

    In my opinion, the message should be cleared once I initiate the page load of reading that new message, rather than after I’ve read it. If that makes sense?
