Hi,

So I’ve loaded BuddyPress and BBPress last night and managed to set up group and site wide forums correctly I think…

I have a problem with membership login. Following registration people receive this email;

Account Activated
Your account was activated successfully! You can now log in with the username and password you provided when you signed up.

Your membership account is awaiting approval by the site administrator. You will not be able to fully interact with the social aspects of this website until your account is approved. Once approved or denied you will receive an email notice.

and then this one once I approve membership (I’ve inserted example name and hyperlink):

Hi (example name), Your member account on (example hyperlink) has been approved! You can now login and start interacting with the rest of the community…

The hyperlink the potential member receives does results in this

We’re sorry but that page could not be found.

How can I fix it they go to a login screen?
I have an inactive “loginradius” plugin and also see there is an inactive “bbpress login widget” which should I use and how?

It will help if you provide the plugin that is responsible for keeping the registration in moderation because BP doesn’t hold registrations for approval by default. Whatever that plugin is, try deactivating it as well as all other plugins except BP and bbPress and test the registration/activation.

At the moment I want to moderate membership signup which the plugin provides to cut down on spam members. Would I be best speaking to the plugins forum?

What plugin? Try my advise above by deactivating all plugins other than BP and bbPress. You need to use a process of elimination to determine if the plugin is causing the issue. Moderating memberships won’t do you much good if even after approving the user the activation fails.

Deactivate it and test registration/activation then report back your findings. You may want to take this up on that plugins support forum if after deactivating it your registration/activation is successful.

problem is there are already a few people requesting access which the plugin is allowing me to moderate. By deactivating it grants them access to the site which is still being updated…. which I have done as per your request.

Can you confirm no separate login page is required and Buddypress or BBpress automatically includes this following registration as this is not configured

I am not sure I am following you but if you deactivated that plugin and a new user can register and activate an account and login successfully then this is not a BP or bbPress issue. It needs to be taken up on that plugins support forum if you insist on using this plugin. Otherwise you may want to look into alternatives! I have used:

It forces a user to complete the required xprofile fields before they can interact with the site and seem like a good deterrent against spam registrations.

ok everything is deactivated. How does a registered user login?

Do you have a sidebar login? Do you even have a sidebar or are you using a full-width template? There should also be a login in the WP toolbar unless you have deactivated it for logged out visitors.

I have sidebars but no sidebar login. Is this the inactive “bbpress login widget” I mentioned in my original post?

Unless you disabled the WP toolbar for logged out visitors there should still be a login link in the toolbar to the top left.

enable/disable WP toolbar for logged out visitors? I’ve only ever seen the WP toolbar when logged into WP, where can I update this and is it used instead of the “bbpress login widget” ?

Dashboard/settings/buddypress/settings
Make sure the box is checked beside show the toolbar for logged out users!
If it is checked and the toolbar is still not showing up for logged out users then you have a theme issue!

that was deactivated. I activated it and it does work but shows WP symbol in the top right corner so have deactivated it.

How do I set up the “bbpress login widget”

Sounds like you got some issues in your theme. Anyway if want to activate that widget simply click and drag it to the right in the appropriate widget section. On this note I am going to bed!
