Newbie questions: 1st install, need advice, possible to import users with multi-user?

  • I am new to buddypress and haven’t installed it as yet. Does the installation need to go in a separate sub-directory or sub-domain to preserve an existing wordpress site as it is? I have multi-site working in WP 3.0.1 on sub-directories. I figured I need to install Buddypress in its own sub-directory, but if I do, is there a way for super admin to add users from the main WP installation to the BP installation? A plug-in for this perhaps? Also, I’d like to be able to create categories of users on the main site, e.g. Video Producers, Audio Produces, Still Photographers, Organizations, so that I can send messages to one o more user goups. Is there a plugin for this?

Also, when users are already logged in to the main site on the site root and they click a link to the social networking site, e.g. http://www.siteroot/buddypress/ I want them to be already logged in upon entering.

You install the buddypress plugin from with in wordpress admin as buddypress needs wordpress 3.0 to work and add other buddypress plugins the same way.
