@yoyoma1974 what theme specifically are you trying to make compatible with BP? Hard to guess why you can’t make the changes using CSS or some functions in a child theme, etc.

We have some new articles with regards to making sidebar appear/disappear at http://codex.buddypress.org/themes/bp-theme-compatibility-and-the-wordpress-default-themes/ like on the Twenty Eleven theme. However, if your specific theme is not using the methods used in articles therein, you might have to follow up with the theme author or hire a developer to help you with the sidebar.

Keymaster, thanks so much, that’s the exact article I needed. I’ve got it working by adding those 3 files to the child theme and making some CSS adjustments. You saved me a lot of time.

It’s a themeforest theme so I guess I can’t expect it to be compatible with buddypress. I would think the developer would want it to be but he wasn’t really interested when I brought it to his attention.
