Notification of new message doesn’t lead to buried new reply to old message

Running Rockettheme Affinity 1.2 for BP 1.2.5.2 on WP 3.0.1
A few months ago, I found a topic that relates to buried replies to read messages. When a user clicks on a notification of a new message, why must they go looking for the message if it’s a reply to an older read message? Is there a way to have the new reply move to the top of the messages and illuminate when the admin bar notification is clicked?
