[NSFW] Avatars Not Displaying Across Blogs on WP Multisite Blogs

I have WP MutliSite and BuddyPress – the most current versions. Users can create their own blogs on subdomains. When a user adds the “Groups” widget or “Who’s Online Avatars” widget in their blog the Gravatars display, but the custom-uploaded avatars do not.

Do we know why this is?
I just now finally got the fix for uploading images via WordPress.org for multisite – its an .htaccess problem. And the folks there say this is a BP problem.
