Pages not being created

I’ve been trying to get BuddyPress working for over a week. WP 3.5.1 and BP 1.6.4.
I get WP installed fine but as soon as I install BP things go bad. I just did a fresh install for the 3rd time. I made a new page with WP and it worked. I install BuddyPress and not only does it not auto create any of the pages it should I wipes out my WP test page.
I tried creating new pages and linking them manually, they preview fine but they never publish and I end up with a 404 error for the admin and everyone else.
I need some help to figure out what is going on with this.
