Awesome. The spammers are creating new groups and posting threads now. Superb!
@stwc there are loads of them, scroll through the groups listing. I did ask the general question whether it was seriously intended that groups creation be open when I spotted the start of groups created called ‘Test’ I had thought there was a site set up where people could have a play around? This site needs to be controlled it’s a developers ‘forum’ and this sort of thing happening just looks utterly cack – site admins / mods please start deleting these groups!
Only John and Andy, and possibly MrMaz, can delete groups. R-a-y, Jeff and I can only moderate the support group forums.
Oh I see I would respectfully suggest that it might be a good idea to promote yourself, r-a-y and Jeff to group admins so this can be controlled?
Andy and jjj have been notified of this spam group. As BP allows all members to create groups, it is of course impractical for the BP moderators to become moderators of member-created groups.
So as not to keep this group thread showing up in the top of the main BP.org thread listing, please do not respond to this thread anymore.
The answer to spammer is NOT to just ignore their groups and threads and leave them be! Spam is a very important issue to all of us and if the buddypress site itself cannot deal with them then how will we?
I am getting spam messages by PM and now I am reading spam threads in spam groups.
I think it would be impractical to leave this stuff here. I am replying to this thread specifically so it WILL be at the top of the listings that way it will be more difficult to ignore
@CareTaker-
Thank you for helping the spammers out by keeping their message front and center. If you took a few minutes to search the forums, you would see that we are all more than well aware of this issue and are actively working toward a solution: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/requests-feedback/forum/topic/here-come-the-spammers/
This is an all volunteer, community project so implementing solutions and pushing them out to “clients” takes longer than you may be accustomed to when using proprietary, must-pay-for software. Please be patient.
I would suggest that you consider disabling members ability to create groups until a solution is found.
That would be swell. But the only people who can do that at this time are JJJ and Andy. The rest of the moderators do not have that ability and so this thread keeps popping back up to the top which helps the spammers more than it helps the community.
Please do not reply to this thread again. Helping spammers spam ( when asked not to do so ) is almost as bad as being a spammer and may eventually be dealt with accordingly. If you want to discuss this issue further, contribute to the thread to which I linked above.
