Photo Comment Replies Not Working Correctly (AJAX)

Using latest version of the Plugin (Version 0.1.8.11) and BuddyPress 1.6. When someone leaves a reply on a photo, the (AJAX) update to the “stream” on the page produces an almost “blank activity”. I confirmed that via the AJAX call, the html being returned back doesn’t seem to be right (populated with data). I’m using this in a custom theme but does the same in a default theme.

Here’s an example (top comment is normal, bottom one shows what happens when a comment is JUST been made):

Note: If you refresh the page after this, you can see the comment just fine. So it’s writing the comment just fine, but something is wrong pulling the activity to dynamically display on the activity stream.

Any thoughts? I don’t see this bug in the bug list.

    1) Is it *just* BP-Album that’s doing this?

    2) Is it sending broken image URL’s via the AJAX method, or is it actually generating a more-or-less empty DOM object?

    3) Can you replicate this defect on another server?

    4) Can you replicate this defect across multiple browsers?

    5) Are you running any form of caching on your server, such as one of the various WP cache plugins, or something more exotic like Varnish?

    6) Can you provide a URL to a page we can visit that ‘s experiencing this defect?

    Thanks!

    Answers to your questions:

    1) Yes
    2) more or less empty DOM object. Here’s the actual HTML being returned in the AJAX call and also what is being posted according to Firebug:

    3) Yes. I can reproduce it locally on my own machine (again, with the default BP theme or with my custom theme).

    4) Yes, seems like all browsers. Especially Firefox and Safari.

    5) I’m running the main site on wpengine, we have a test server elsewhere, and i have a local site running. Not 100% sure about the first two but i’m saying they aren’t running any server caching. My local machine def. isn’t. And nobody is running any caching (or similar) plugins.

    6) I’ll get that shortly. This is a private BP network and i want to make sure i can give this to you secure. Is there a private way to do this?

    Thanks!

Based on the information you’ve provided so far, I’d say 75% odds its BP-Album causing the problem, and its likely a compound defect where communication between BP-Album and BuddyPress is failing in a subtle way.

We *love* squashing these kinds of challenging bugs.

Send me some login credentials at carlroett [at] gmail [dot] ~com and I’ll take a look.

Its often necessary to have the run of the install, full FTP, and full database access for jobs like this …So if this is for a big commercial site (which it sounds like it is) you might want to start preparing to set up a sandbox server for us to work on.

If we can’t find anything after reviewing BP-Album’s activity stream code, this will be the next step.
