Plugins repository

This may be more of a WordPress thing, but… I’ve been trying to get bp-events, my BuddyPress Events plugin, listed on the WordPress plugins repository…

I’ve been fooling around with Tortoise SVN, and I can’t make heads of tails of it… I can’t seem to get the darn thing to upload my plugin. I can’t get it to down or upload anything… in short: I’m lost.

Is there an easier way to get started, does anyone know of a good tutorial? I’ll have to do it from my Windows machine, since my server doesn’t have SVN or command line access.

    Thanks for your help

Erwin you have to connect to the wp plugins repo for your plugin such as:

    http://svn.wp-plugins.org/<plugin slug>

Where your plugin slug is the filename of the download zip, minus the .zip part. Then you can ‘checkout’ a copy of the repo which is your working copy. In tortise svn it’s right click in the directory you want to create a copy and ‘svn checkout…’

It’ll ask you the url to the repo and the name of the dir to put things in.

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/about/faq/ for kinda how to take it from there.

Thanks Burt… when I did that, it tried to Download the files from the Repository (which aren’t there yet, because I haven’t Uploaded anything yet).

So I used the Repisitory Browser to upload my plugin files first, then created a new folder and SVN checkout to bring them back down.

I *think* my plug in is now in the Repository Trunk and a 0.59 Tagged version… don’t know how to check to see if I did it correctly, though… we’ll have to wait and see.

I was wondering when you were gonna get around to this. :) You should join us on the bp irc channel. Help others and get help. Bring your sense of humor.

irc… another thing I’ve never gotten into…… sorry for being so slow in adapting.

It seems my plugin is now listed correctly on the WP plugins AND I can upload changes to the trunk with Tortoise! Yay for technology!

One last question regarding the plugin repository. I see some folks have an image (avatar) for their plug-in both in BuddyPress plugins list and WordPress’…. how do I go about adding one?

I dunno Erwin. I noticed that too and never bothered to track down how. Must be related to something in the plugin header.

The avatar is linked to the username you used to submit the plugin.

Well I’m not sure what is happening then Andy. I have one bp.org, wp.org username ‘burtadsit’ and my plugins get a generic gravatar. Is it related to the email address?
