Possible BP URL problem?

    @itguy

    Either what I encounter and view as weird, maybe as intended, but since I have not found any reference to the issue I decided to post it and find out.

    My setup is WPMU 2.7.1, BB 1.0.1 and bbP 1.0 RC3, with deep integration and sub-directories (not sub-domains) on my own server. However the issue I encounter has been there since having installed the combination starting with WPMU 2.7.1, BB 1.0 and bbP 1.0-alpha-6/1.0 RC1 & RC2.

    Everything works as it should regarding user integration, blogs, groups and forums.

    Now to problem (weird behavior) at hand:

    Login in as user1 redirects the user to the users profile page (thanks to Burt’s code suggestion) => site.com/members/user1/

    The following clicks on the buttons work as they should (for now):

    – Logo Icon => site.com/

    – Home Button => site.com/

    – Blog Button => site.com/blog

    – Members Button => site.com/members

    – Groups Button => site.com/groups

    – Blogs Button => site/blogs

    – Members->User2 => site.com/members/user2/

    – Blogs->User2 => site.com/user2/

    The next selections maybe what they should but I am not sure:

    – Home Button or SiteLogo => site.com/user2

    I expected the true site’s home page not the user’s blog home page.

    Selecting the Blog button results in:

    – Blog Button => site.com/user2/2009/06/17/blog-slug/

    This definitely is not what should happened, why not the URL to the site wide Blog? => site.com/blog

    Things now get in my view weird, selecting Members, Groups or Blogs Button result in:

    site.com/user2/members

    site.com/user2/groups

    site.com/user2/blogs

    All using the user’s blog home page with the widgets for the center and right side, but an error for the left side that states in its header “Sorry, that page was not found” and the error message underneath “Sorry, that page you were looking for was not found.”

    The only way to get back to the (correct?) URLs for those buttons and logo is to select user1’s profile via the link on the left side of the BuddyBar.

    I may be wrong in my assumption that this is weird and the links under the buttons change when selecting a member from the member page, if so please tell me so and explain what page is missing to eliminate the error. If I am correct, I would also like to know how to fix the problem or at least point me in the correct direction to find a fix.

    Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Thank you for providing good documentation about your issue!

    I just did a quick read through of your issue and will think about this some more, but a few quick questions come to mind to get this dialogue started:

    1. Are you using custom themes? If so, what hapens when you switch to the default BP themes?
    2. Have you made any alterations to your .htaccess file?
    3. Do you have any other plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, have you tried deactivating all of them except the BuddyPress plugin?
    4. Although this may not be useful, have you checked your server’s error logs?

    Jeff, thanks for the quick response, here are my answers to your questions:

    1. No, I am using the default BP themes for home and members.

    2. No.

    3. Yes there are plugins installed => bpPictures, Sitewide Newsletter System and Community Blogs. I did disable them without any change in behavior.

    4. Good suggestion, I did now go through the error log after repeating the steps and found no errors reported.
