That’s an interesting idea. I would want to make sure that people aren’t able to resend a bunch of emails over and over again (seems like it might cause spam problems) but I can definitely see a use for what you’re talking about. I’ll put it on my list for a future version.
To reduce the spam potential, you could restrict the number of invites which could be selected to be resent at one keystroke to no more than – say – 50, or some kind of date restriction which meant they could not be resent in the current month. But it’s a hugely useful feature.
It would need to be handled carefully the whole notion is kind of spammy, and I tremble at the thought of hundreds of members all deciding to mass email from my server
Hmm…looks like I made the wrong choice to continue posting on the other thread. I mentioned a couple similar/related features over http://buddypress.org/community/groups/third-party-components-plugins/forum/topic/invite-anyone-invite-by-email-too-please-help-test/?topic_page=11&num=15#post-50961
I’ll just post thoughts about the plugin to this group forum from now on. Maybe Boone could post a link to this group on the thread I linked to and then lock the other thread?
I think the key is to give the Admin control over the number of re-invites which can be sent at any one time. Overall, it’s a feature I’ve found extremely useful while running a Ning-based network.
Re techguys comments above:
See this is what I meant
can’t have two areas running at same time, although things have settled a fair bit some of the rational of how to use the new layout is still very confusing.
Not sure where I questioned the continued running of the older forum thread though
I’m copying over my requests so they’re here for Boone to see in one spot:
-Send again button (a bit controversial maybe). This would be nice if the new email could be customized before it’s sent.
-Link the email address so they could send their own personal email with a link to subscribe (just a simple mailto link with the subject and message defined)
Thanks for the suggestions. You mean that the email address on the Sent Invites page should be linked, right?
Yep, something like <a href="mailto:email@something.com?subject=Default%20Subject&body=Default%20Body%20of%20Email”> This way people can resend the email using their own email application including the link for people to sign up.
