Search results and finding groups

Hi,
Could someone tell me why the search function on the default twenty thirteen theme doesn’t return results for groups – public, private or hidden? Am I doing something wrong? It seems to only return pages/posts not groups.
Ideally I would like the user to be able to use the search function to fine a hidden/private group that general users cannot see.
