great idea to see a TREND from status-messages !!!
However, instead of a “cloud”, I would rather prefer to have simple links (like the “Tag-Clud” we currently have with BuddyPress). The 3-D animated cloud ist flashy, but simple things actually rule the world……
Really great idea, and I think it can be done.. Just need to find someone who can do it 
can you make “trend lines” out of it ? Probably also Group-specific ?
So that we can see which “activities” are coming from which Group ?

The cloud idea is not bad,because I use it on my blogs but it causes clutter when many items are in it.
Maybe the ‘Showing trend-lines like charts at the stock-exchange ?’ is simple to understand.
Perhaps it owuld be best to work on something simple to begin with, a simple list like on Twitter.
I’m not entirely sure where status updates are stored, are they in a single table or spread accross multiple users, this could present a problem.
I will look in to it in the meantime.
