Unable to translate specific wordings

    Hi all,

    I struggle to find out a solution on translating specific wordings of buddypress.

    I have translate the 80% of the language file and everything looks perfect except some specific lines that seem just untranslated…

    For example ” UserX joined the GroupZ”. I translated this line but still is untranslated. (I also joined a group, after translated this line).

    Then I translate the line “UserX and UserZ are now friends” but still remains untranslated.

    The weird thing is that if I translate or change anything else, it will be translated.

    Both the lines I mentioned as examples are displayed in Activity steam, so it might has to do with this. I really don’t know.

    @cartographer,

    double check what you translate is correctly writen.
    Ie, %1$s joined the group %2$s
    The mandatory part must be %1$s (the username) and %2$s (group name) Only joined the group is in greek.
    Same thing for %1$s and %2$s are now friends. “and” and “are now friends” can be translated.

    If you already did this correctly, it could be that you’re victim of gettext latency. When a server is busy, you have to reload several times the page to refresh your browser, or to wait a little while.

    Also, since 1.7, template & localisation are hanging in some case because of a weird loading priority affecting bbp and BP. It’s not the reason why you can’t get a translation, but it may be an explanation about a buggy environment.

    Thank you @Chouf1

    I (at least) double checked the translations. I did reload the page one thousand times :)

    Every other change I make it appears immediately. It is weird…

    @cartographer,

    check bp-friends/bp-friends-functions.php:100 and 109 for the original BP wording.
    Check also the po file who must be declared in utf8.
    See also if the greek wording use some special characters, like apostrophe who must be in html and not in natural typing

    Example:
    The letter zeta is usually ΞΆ but must be written & zeta ; or & #950 ; (without space) if used in a php function or a js part.

    @cartographer

    Nope…

    1) Po file is declared in utf8
    2) Greek doesn’t face any issue in any character, as I all ready translate almost 800 wording wihout any issue (every character appears ok).

    As a matter of fact I changed the “%1$s and %2$s are now friends” with “%1$s test %2$s” and still I get “%1$s and %2$s are now friends”.

    So it’s something that hasn’t to do with language.

    Maybe a plugin ? Deactivate all except BP and give a try.

    Hi @Chouf1 and community

    You had right pointing the bp-functions.php file, as after translating the original wordings in this files (bp-friends/bp-friends-functions.php:100 and 109), now they are translated.

    But why this specific wording need to be translated from the php file and can’t work from the po file?

    This will be a problem after upgrading buddypress.

    It looks like it *should* work. Where did you get the .pot file from?

    I used an all ready translated file that I found in buddypress codex (somewhere I don’t remember) and I did some changes.
