Upgrading BP -> getting White Screen

    Hi,

I’m upgrading from BP 1.1.2 to 1.2 and I’m having difficulty.

    I followed the instructions:

    1. I deactivated all plugins.

    2. I first upgraded to WPMU 2.9.1 successfully.

    3. Then I tried manually overwriting the old BP plugins folder, with the new BP 1.2 folder.

    4. I then deleted the themes folder.

After I clicked on activate buddypress in the plugins section, I immediately get a white screen the second I click on “activate”. I can’t access wp-admin/ or the home page. They are all white.

I can only fix this by deleting the buddypress folder, and then copying my backup folder of BP 1.1.2

    I also tried:

    1. automatic upgrading buddypress from 1.1.2 to 1.2, but it hangs (it updates the folder, but seems to have problems activating it).

    2. removing my old BP folder and putting in BP 1.2 (instead of overwriting)

    3. completely removing my wp-content folder, putting in the default wp-content folder from wpmu installation, and then trying to install the buddypress plugin manually and automatically.

None of these are working. Please help!! I feel like I must be forgetting to do something important.

    Thanks!!

There is probably a plugin incompatibility.

Install wpmu, deactivate all your plugin.

Install BP; see if all is ok

    reactivate the other plugins

if you have no other plugins and only BP and again the blank page error, check your php config and see how much memory_limit you have on your server.

Thanks for the reply. I tried installing with every plugin deactivated, but I still get the white screen.

The PHP script memory limit is 64 MB (total memory is 1 gigabyte) , but it’s only using 10 MB or so generally, and 64 MB should be more than enough I believe

I will look into increasing the memory limit again but, are there any other things I could do to fix this. Thanks!

This happened to me – so I looked at themes, and it said “The active theme is broken, reverting to default theme”, which is the default WPMU theme. Once I switched to the new BP default theme, the home page came back.

    Hope this works for you.

    @quaker-oats (breakfast man ?)

    1. I deactivated all plugins. OK

    2. I first upgraded to WPMU 2.9.1 successfully. OK

    3. Then I tried manually overwriting the old BP plugins folder, with the new BP 1.2 folder.

As written in the readme, it’s better you erase the old BP folders (after making a copy) before installing 1.2

To be sure that ALL files are the new one.

    4. I then deleted the themes folder.

The theme folder belongs to WPMU, why did you erase it ?

BP 1.2 themes are in a bp-theme folder ans this folder doesn’t need to be moved, as by the past version.

WPMU now detect automatically the BP theme.
