Uppercase – Registration

I know this has been mentioned before, I have performed extensive search’s.

Now from what I have gathered this was fixed as BP scaled back to WP login/auth system.
I am however still having this issue, I cannt allow my members to register with uppercase lettering. Unfortunately this is a must and using the “name” field work-around just doesnt cut it as the “mention” system works ff the login name.

If someone has a fix for this I would appreciate it greatly, BuddyPress is such a great peice of kit and I would hate to have to uninstall it and all of its features over something so trivial

BP has always used WP’s login system; we’ve never implemented are own.

WP Core has a difference in username requirements depending if you’re on multisite or not-multisite. As BP started out life as a WPMU plugin, for some reason, we ended up with their username validation logic copied into BP. I believe this was because it wasn’t possible to utilise WPMU’s directly (not sure).

In BP 1.6 (what we’re working on now), we removed the validation logic we have, so it will definitely fall back to whatever logic is present in WP Core.

Ahh right, thankyou for the prompt and informative response.

While we wait, is it possible then to utilise the “name” field not only as display name, but with the @Mention system aswelll?

Oh and on another nte, when 1.6 comnes out, will that involve everyone re-registering, since you cant change the nick you registered with?
