Seems like a great plug-in i will use in the near future.
I am currently working on a site where I would like to name the groups after location spots, and let user check-in in these groups. Is this an option you are working on?

@wwwanders on the next version, i’m working on a “place” component. This “place” component will be available for groups so that people will be able to create places in main directory or groups on a public or private way (depending on the visibility of the group). Members will be able to checkin the created places, say a word on it and share a photo
I’ve also added filters to add metadata to the places category so that it will be easy to add pictures to illustrate the categories like foursquare for instance…
Places will be static or “live”. If the user have chosen the “live” option, then i’ll try to make an auto refresh script in order to automatically load the new checkins of the displayed “live” place.
I hope to finish soon, i think i’ve done half of the path

I’m using your plugin but the config tab is not showing in my wordpress admin. The checkin tab in the front end is also not showing.
Is there something I can do to fix it?

if you use version 1.0 of bp checkins and if you run a multisite and if you run BuddyPress 1.6
the settings can be set in the network admin settings
if you use version 1.0 of bp checkins and if you don’t run a multisite and if you run BuddyPress 1.6
the settings can be set in the admin settings
if you use version 1.0 of bp checkins and if you run BuddyPress 1.5+
if multisite > network admin buddypress submenu
else admin buddy press submenu
Now if the admin menu is still not there, please tell me what version of WordPress, BuddyPress, and config multisite or not.
This plugin doesn’t note work under BP 1.5+
The settings are enabled now but still cant post photos (it’s okay, i have another plugin for that), but the checkins tab shows only in my main site, not in the other sites of the network. What I really need is a map to show where the checkins of a group are coming from. Is that possible?
you can add a photo if you activated the option from checkins and places settings tab
then if the browser can use HTML5 file / file reader API, you can upload or use a link to an image
else you can only add a link to an image.
Yes places and checkins are only available on main blog.
a map to show the checkins posted in a group, I guess it needs someone to develop it..
