Which installs do what, what is the best place to put them

After several failed attempts (header rewrite errors and other things) at installing BuddyPress onto an existing WordPress-MU on a local server (XAMPP) I started over. I have a relatively clean install of wordpressmu (relatively meaning I’ve done some minor tweaking of the appearance). Now, I would like to add BuddyPress. First, since I want to have complete integration, should it be installed in a parallel folder to the wp folder or within it (or does it not matter). Second, there is a download of BuddyPress here, and a plug in called BuddyPress on the WordPress site. Do I use one or the other, in a specific sequence, or one instead of the other? If the last, which one gives me the most flexibility? Assuming I get that far, will both be integrated or do I need further steps. WPMU version 2.84a, mySQL 4,1.14, PHP 5.3.0, Apache 2.0, all on WinXP SP3. Thanks, in advance for any guidance you can provide.

You really need to understand buddypress…and maybe bit about WordPress. Everything is explained in readme.txt

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or whatever, BuddyPress stays in plugins directory as it’s a plugin for wpmu.

I’m looking at the readme files included in latest.zip and there is nothing about that anywhere. If I understood how this was extending wordpress I wouldn’t have come here. The step by step links from the download pages go to a page not found. So how am I supposed to find this information for a product I think my client should use if I can get it to work?

Just did a plug in install from the latest.zip file I got here. Received a wordpress error: The plugin does not have a valid header. Is there anyone willing to help here?

We have a lot of information with quite a lot of user experiences posted here.

    Read the document first.

Your install seems clean install, but you should also read this sticky topic.

You’ve figured how to post on this forum, it shouldn’t be difficult to find documents and extra information (searching, etc.), right? ;)

btw, you are right about link missing. We need to call Andy here.
