<p>It&#8217;s better to make your changes in a <a href="http://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/" rel="nofollow ugc">child theme</a>.  This way your changes will not be overwritten when you have to upgrade BP.</p>
