Those are exactly it. I tried to delete them when attempting to customize the emails, but had a warning.

I really would like none of those brackets to show up on email notifications. Is there a way to remove them safely? There should just be the site name showing.

I am not sure if there is a notification page that can be seen either with content or blank.
