<p>Buddypress is a plugin not a theme. It is still bundled with a theme but that isn&#8217;t necessary any more and is hidden on new installs  &#8211; it can be activated with a snippet. </p>
<p>Most normal themes ( that follow official wordpress guidelines ) should be compatible now. For more info see theme compatibility articles in the bp documentation.</p>
